2003
April 19, 2003
Just made a small change to my web page so Internet Explorer users can view
it. It's unfortunate that the latest version of Internet Explorer doesn't support
CSS2 properly and it can't render XHTML pages properly with the XML declaration
in place.
April 17, 2003
Version 1.94 is finally finished and released. This ones fixes a minor bug and adds the ability to also convert potions.
March 30, 2003
I've finally finished coding and testing. Just wanted to make sure the editor is still compatible with older versions of Diablo II (i.e. pre-1.07). This version adds the ability to convert gems from one type (and condition) to another. I've updated the PDF user guide as well.
March 28, 2003
I've updated the web site a bit and is best viewed using a CSS2 compliant browser.
March 15, 2003
Released a minor update which adds the missing titles for hardcore and regular characters created using the LoD expansion set.
January 10, 2003
Released the Diablo 2 Character Info Viewer. There was an interest
in a console program that just displays info on a character. The program
is based using the ANSI C++ code available with the graphical editor.
Released v1.91 which removed non-portable code that was added in v1.90
and also added some functions to the Character and Item classes that
may be of use to other programmers.
January 9, 2003
Added version 1.90 which fixes the web address in the about box and README.TXT and removed the Refresh menu item from the View menu since that function was deprecated with v1.85.
January 4, 2003
Added a link to download from FilePlanet.
January 3, 2003
Version 1.89 has been released with the quests problem fixed. I have
changed the distribution format back to ZIP since there were users
who didn't know how to open RAR archives.
2002
September 5, 2002
Removed the Forums section as it wasn't really being used and replaced
it with F.A.Q.
June 18, 2002
Added a link to download the editor from CNET's Download.com site.
April 3, 2002
Fixed a minor bug where non-perfect gems were not being detected all
the time. This brings the editor up to v1.88 now.
March 23, 2002
There should now be a more reliable download link for the editor. You
may also download the editor from File
Planet
February 12, 2002
I have fixed a minor bug which seems to come up rarely and improved the
way the stats are read a bit. The editor is now up to v1.87.
You can download the ZIPped version below or for those who prefer a RAR
archive. You can download one from http://briefcase.yahoo.com/burtontsang/
and change to the "files" directory.
2001
November 21, 2001
A minor and rare bug was found that only crops up for character names
that contained certain markers used in the file. The editor is now at
v1.861.
November 7, 2001
A refresh of v1.86 is out which has a more readable and portable checksum
calculation code and the removal of unused code. This refresh is slightly
smaller (about 2KB) than the one released two days ago and is dated November
7, 2001.
November 5, 2001
Version 1.86 has been released which now works with Diablo II v1.09+.
Thanks goes to Stoned2000 for making his source available to the public.
October 18, 2001
Added a new page to list the 1.09 file format. You can find it by clicking
the Character file structure link below.
October 13, 2001
The source code for the editor is now released. You can download it by
clicking on the download link below. Please note that though the compiled
executable (v1.85) can read and write v1.09 character files, it does
not calculate the checksum for the character files. So if you edit
your v1.09 characters, they will not be playable in the game.
October 8, 2001
I have been unable to figure out the checksum calculation for 1.09. Therefore
a new version of the editor will not be released but I am making the
source code available. I will release the source code as soon as I have
finished converting the main portion to C++.
August 30, 2001
I am currently working on a new version that will be compatible with
the 1.09 patch released last week.
August 17, 2001
Fixed a bug with the editor not upgrading flawless amethyst gems.
Latest version is now 1.84.
July 20, 2001
Version 1.83 has been released which fixes a problem when upgrading gems.
July 17, 2001
Another minor update which should now have eliminated a minor problem
with the quests form not updating correctly.
I have also updated the Forums area. If you want to go to the old Forums
area, click here.
July 15, 2001
Version 1.81 is out which is a minor update but adds the remaining character
titles I didn't get earlier, added two more quest options for act 5,
and fixes a minor bug with the quests form.
July 14, 2001
I have finally finished editing v1.8 and have tested it with the Lord
of Destruction (LOD) expansion set in as much detail as possible.
When editing characters, you will only see the corresponding LOD options
(i.e. Act 5 waypoints, classes, skills, etc.) if your character is an
expansion character.
June 30, 2001
I have finished updating and testing the editor. Version 1.7 is now
compatible with Diablo II v1.07+ and I will be working on another
version to be compatible with the Lord of Destruction expansion pack.
However, you can use v1.7 to read and edit the expansion pack characters
but I recommend that you do not change your expansion
character's class, title, or status until the next version. The next
version will include Act 5 and be updated to support the new classes
and their skills.
I am working on a new version of the editor which will be compatible
with Diablo II v1.07+. I also hope to have a version out later that
will be compatible with the recent expansion pack.
May 14, 2001
Fixed a couple of minor bugs and have tested the editor with Diablo
II v1.06.
April 27, 2001
Fixed a bug where the program didn't let you save your character after making quest changes.
April 13, 2001
Fixed a bug plus made a couple of minor changes.
March 9, 2001
Fixed a bug that would reset your experience and current life, stamina, and mana values. Therefore, I have released
a new version, 1.6c.
On another note, I'm sure all you Diablo II fans know that the expansion pack is set to release July 1st.
February 13, 2001
I have heard that the Diablo II Expansion pack will be available in stores in June. On another note, I have tested
the current version of the editor (1.6b) and have confirmed that it works with the recent v1.05 patch.
January 10, 2001
Fixed a bug with the current and maximum life, mana, and stamina values not updating when their respective counterpart
were changed. You can download v1.6b below.
January 8, 2001
I have finished version 1.6a which now allows you to use the Upgrade Gems option with Diablo II v1.04.
January 7, 2001
Version 1.6 is out and now works with Diablo II v1.04. Some changes
have been made and are outline in the readme.txt file.
2000
October 16, 2000
This is the new page for my editor and a new version of the editor, 1.5f, has been released. The About box has
been updated to reflect the new home page.
October 9, 2000
Version 1.5e has been released which fixes a small bug with waypoints and saving.
September 6, 2000
I will be away, starting tomorrow, and will be back on the 18th. I will see if I can check my mail while I'm gone
(depends on whether there will be a computer to use).
September 4, 2000
Version 1.5d has been released. There was a problem with the quest statuses. Specifically, Act 1, Quest 5 would
not display "Imbue" even though your character has that option in teh game. There are no other changes
other than that.
September 1, 2000
Version 1.5c has been released. I have fixed the problem with the editor not recording all items if your character
had any non-empty socketed items. With this version, I have also improved quest status detection, hopefully, and
added clickable links in the About box.
The editor has been tested with Diablo II v1.02 and v1.03 and no problems have occurred or arisen. I have tested
it with my own characters and characters other users have sent to me to test on my machine.
The system I am testing the editor with is:
- Celeron 400
- 192MB RAM
- Matrox G400 16MB S/H
- WinME (I have also tested it with Win98SE)
- Diablo II v1.03 (I have also tested it with v1.02)
It should run on most systems as I don't see why it wouldn't run or cause problems with different system specs.
August 31, 2000
A user has notified me of a mistake in the file structure table and it has now been corrected. More links have
also been included at the bottom including a link to John Doe's site who has info on the item structure as well
as source code to his editor.
Also, another user has notified me that the latest version doesn't take into account socketed items with gems when
saving. I will release a new version as soon as possible to correct this. In the meantime, do not insert gems into
any socketed items for now until I have released the new version.
August 26, 2000
Version 1.5b has been released and will be the last version as I want to work on other projects. I will be posting
information regarding the .d2s file structure on my web page soon for anyone who wants to know what the file structure
is like.
If anyone needs help on creating their own editors and such, feel free to ask.
August 20, 2000
I am currently working on the next version and testing some things. I will post what will be in the next version
once I am sure what can be implemented.
August 15, 2000
Version 1.5a has been released. I have tested it a few times and so far the quests are now working properly as
far as I can tell and town waypoints for each of the acts where quests are Started or Completed are also activated
as well.
August 13, 2000
Looks like there is a problem with version 1.5 writing the act statuses. In fact, it wasn't writing the act statuses
but is writing the quest statuses correctly. I am looking at this right now and will release v1.5a as soon as I
can.
August 12, 2000
Version 1.5 has been released and hopefully most of the bugs I have found have been fixed. If any of the quest
status's are not reported correctly, please send me your character file and state which quests you have not started,
started, and completed (i.e. when you press 'Q', the quests should be grayed out) so I can write down the values.
August 11, 2000
It seems FilePlanet finally updated their web page listing the latest version 1.4. You can find it at the bottom
of the page. Why they kept v1.3 on once they put v1.4 on, I have no idea.
I hope to have v1.5 out very soon -- perhaps by tomorrow -- I just have to check some of the values for the quests.
July 31, 2000
Oops. Found a minor problem with my new version -- tab ordering. Forgot to check the tab ordering before I uploaded
the new version. It has now been fixed and to make sure you have the latest one (with the tab ordering fixed),
check the following:
date and time should be July 31, 2000, 6:04pm, and file size should be 669,184 bytes.
Version 1.4 has been released! The layout has been changed from what I had previously came up with and hopefully
it's better than before.
July 29, 2000
Version 1.4 is coming along nicely though I would like the opinion of users out there whether they like the new
layout I have in mind. Please send me your opinions regarding the new layout.
July 26, 2000
Version 1.3b has now been released though it isn't anything major -- minor bug fixes and a couple of new options.
July 24, 2000
Well, I have found where the acts, waypoints, assigned function keys (F1 through F8) are stored and it will take
me some time to study them and incorporate them into the next version which will most likely be version 1.4.
July 21, 2000
Looks like 1.3 definitely won't be my last version. There will be a couple of minor bug fixes for 1.3b as well
as some new features.
Finally, FilePlanet updates their page! Too bad they only list version 1.3 even though there's already a 1.3a and
I'm already working on 1.3b. Oh well, what can I do, they haven't even updated their main page -- it still lists
the download numbers from a week and a half ago!
July 19, 2000
I have updated the editor a bit to fix some minor bugs and have added an option to check your character's stats.
Please read the readme.txt or the included PDF file for more info.
July 17, 2000
I have finally finished testing the program. This will probably be my final version unless there will be a new
Diablo II patch that changes the character files or something else comes up. Read the readme.txt file for more
info on what has changed with the program.
July 15, 2000
Well, it looks like I will have to delay the release of v1.3 by a day or so but I hope to have it out by Monday
the latest. I have been testing it with the v1.02 patch and it seems Blizzard is getting smarter by adding level
checks. The new patch now checks your character's level and determines the maximum gold your character can have.
Therefore I will change my program accordingly.
July 13, 2000
Version 1.3 is almost done but I'm not sure whether I will be able to have the built-in help ready by the end of
the week. If not, then it will not be included.
July 9, 2000
Version 1.2b has been released. I have tested for as much bugs as possible before releasing this one but I don't
guarantee that there won't be any. Click on the link at the bottom of the page to download.
