Q. How do I use the editor?
After extracting the editor from the ZIP archive, double click on the D2Editor.exe
file to run it.
To start editing a character, click on the File menu and select Open (or press the CTRL-O hotkey) and select a character you want to edit. Make the changes you want and then save by clicking on the File menu and select Save (CTRL-S hotkey). Close the character (or editor) before playing Diablo II.
Q. After editing my character I get a
"bad generic file". What's wrong?
This error means that you are using an older version of the editor with Diablo
II v1.09 and newer. Editor versions 1.86 and newer will work with Diablo II
v1.09 but it is recommended you get the latest version, currently 1.94. You
can download the latest version from the following sites:

FilePlanet
Q. I can't modify my Battle Net character.
Why?
Characters to be used on Battle Net only are stored on Battle Net's servers
and therefore CANNOT be edited by any editor.
Q. Does the editor work with the Lord of
Destruction expansion set?
Yes, versions 1.8 and newer supports the Lord of Destruction expansion set.
Q. Is the editor compatible with Diablo II v1.10?
Currently, the editor is NOT compatible with Diablo II v1.10. If you
still want to be able to edit your characters, you must downgrade (i.e. re-install
Diablo II) to v1.09.
